Another GREAT challenge from Michelle Ward, this month's assignment:
". . . use a stamp or stencil - go for a large, bold pattern for best results. You just need two or more colors of paint, brushes, and your stamp. Begin by painting your surface using the two colors - leave areas of full saturation and then blend in the rest. Using the same two colors, brush onto your stamp and drop it down. You should find an interesting result - where parts of the image drop out or disappear because same colors align . . . "

My first attempt: Hand carved cat stamp using teal and green acrylic paint.
My technique is a little rough but
I don't mind seeing the brushstrokes and random dropping out in places and more visible in others. I will say this really was a challenge-and a good learning exercise.
Next up-brown and earthy green-two of my 'default' colors using a hand-carved flower stamp. I chose this stamp for it's length which allows it to 'disappear' gradually. I could easily get addicted to this technique.
Ta-DA, this is my favorite of the four: I decided to go 'dramatic' with my colors. Stamp is hand-carved.
There are three images on this one, it's a crop of a larger page which explains the odd splash of pink/purple near the bottom right corner.
I had a blast and learned so much as always. Maybe I can sneak away from my to-do list next week and try a few more. Happy weekend everyone and thank you Michelle for another FUN challenge!

LOVE this technique... thanks for sharing. Your handcarved stamps are awesome too.
ReplyDeletelove the final version, just beautiful and I agree with Jo, love the hand carved stamps!
ReplyDeleteJane - these are wonderful! I love that you showed us all of your attempts. Love that you shared several different colors, different stamps, and shared your favorite bits. I'm happy to know you learned something. You certainly dazzled us witht your visuals. Thanks for sharing with the team!
ReplyDeleteVery cool technique,I might have to give it a try. Thanks for sharing. Love your pages.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun challenge and you did well on all although the greenish kitties make me feel a bit ill (or maybe that's the migraine coming on this morning). Love all the others, though - I might play with this one - it would work with smaller stamps in areas in a big painting, too.
ReplyDeleteGreat results, love your handmade stamps. My favorite is the one with the flower stamp.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful compositions.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors and textures.
OOOOH, i can't wait to get back in the game :))...especially after seeing you at work! All marvelous Jane, as are YOU. xo

These are great, I particularly like the effect with the long stamp but an *truly* impressed that you cut out your own cat stamp! Good work :-)
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome! I have to agree, the last one is my favorite as well. The color combination with the textures is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteOhhh, I really like the second one. That hand carved flower you made is really gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love your delicate, almost ethereal results and am so impressed by the hand carving! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour earthy colouring and hand carved stamp are devine!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pages... each one my favorite and your colors were yummy!
ReplyDeletewow- great job! each one is so beautiful and cool in it's own way. that long, slow disappear on the flower stamp really is a great effect.
ReplyDeleteWow. I LOVE your cat stencil I may be inspired enough to try carving my own version. Anyway, my favorites are the first two - the first because of the cool stamp, and the second for its graphic/organic qualities. I can see this design on a fabric or graphic of some kind. -Kim
