Michelle Ward's latest challenge: create a journal page about our favorite music, the songs that you just want to sing along with. My first page is based on 'Angel' by Sarah Mclachlan, I've heard it a million times and I never get tired of it. So hauntingly beautiful and such profound lyrics:
". . . Always some reason to feel not good enough . . . "
". . . you are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie . . . "
I used a version of my watercolor painting 'Grief Angel" changing the color in PhotoShop to a monochrome steel blue/grey. The hand is one of my carved stamp silhouettes. The text in the hand is lyrics typed in PhotoShop and the snippet at the bottom is hand-written lyrics.
On a happier note is "Walking on Sunshine"a song I've heard many times and it always makes me smile. Another hand carved silhouette stamp, lyrics in Adobe Illustrator (text on a curve). Texture is a painted/stamped/stenciled background.

Finally an old favorite. My hand painted heart image with lyrics added in PhotoShop. Katrina Elam sang this on TV a few years ago and I have never forgotten it. She belted it out so beautifully and held the notes forever, the lyrics are so graceful and heartfelt.

Thanks for visiting, have a great day and thank you Michelle for another FUN challenge!

Beautiful artwork and from such a varied song line up! Great stuff
ReplyDeleteJane, I love how you manage to make your photoshop art look organic with your layers of personal images. Sarah's "Angel" is one of my favorites, and this piece certainly does it justice. The sunshine piece is so vibrant and fun, and now I have the song in my head :) Beautiful work, and fun way to show the songs that make you sing out loud. Thanks for sharing Jane!!
ReplyDeleteLove your interpretation of the challenge! Wonderful Jane! xxoo

ReplyDeleteOh, such a great job ! My favorite is the Angel piece, I think. I love that song as well. You rock the Crusade, Jane !
ReplyDeleteYour interpretation in each of the three pieces is unique, Jane. I couldn't choose a favorite but I especially like the colors in "Love is"... for some reason it feels like your heart(s) is the star in a tranquil flower garden.
ReplyDeleteVery intense...such dimension and thought. Well done!!
ReplyDeleteGreat pages. Angel is one of my favorites, too. A friend of mine used it to introduce Mary Magdalene in a show he put together about Jesus, using all contemporary pop and rock songs. Your composition is beautiful. Walking on Sunshine is great, and that piece really captures the energy of it :) Beautiful Love piece, too, I'd never heard that song.
ReplyDeleteWonderful interpratations! So full of emotions!
ReplyDeletelove the way youve done the songs - I happen to just love that angel song too, I think it was the title song of the movie - a city of angels... and have loved it since seeing the movie! it was a great challenge wasnt it and I can see youve really done it justice too!

ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous pages Jane. I think the top image, with the angel, speaks to me the most possibly. I admire the way you combine old artwork, rework the images and add layers of digital and handwritten - the combination is stunning.
